Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island, Georgia

There are very few lodging options on Cumberland Island. Guest can either pitch a tent at one the wonderfully designed campsites or stay at the Greyfield Inn. That's pretty much it...no other lodging options for visiting this majestic island.

This colonial-style hotel was built in the 1900s by the Carnegie family and has been open to guest since 1962.

Remnants of the Carnegie family's history still exist with displayed original family portraits and antiques in the Inn's parlors and guesthouses.

There are a variety of room options at the Inn including private bungalows, shared cottages or quaint guestrooms in the main house.

Nomad's Lens particularly enjoyed the private setting of this cottage with a private outdoor shower and veranda.

Southern charm and historic restoration are seen in every aspect of the Greyfield Inn. Quaint and remote, the Greyfield Inn has been named one of America's top 25 Inns by Conde Nest Travelers for many years.

Dinner is expertly created by the very talented chefs and served in several courses all of which are wonderfully prepared and expertly presented. (sorry, dinner photos were not allowed) Nomad's Lens strongly suggests taking the all-inclusive dinner option. The food is magnificent... and there is no other place to dine on the island; so, not much of choice.

Greyfield Inn is the perfect base-camp for exploring Cumberland Island. The National Park Services and ferry limit the number of daily visitors; thus guests are provided with a private escape and opportunity to explore and enjoy the beautiful beaches, trails, hiking, biking and island's wildlife.

Guests start their day in southern-style with a hearty meal of breakfast meats, fruit, homemade muffins fresh from the oven and eggs, pancakes or one of the chef’s specialties.

Lunch comes packed in a picnic basket, perfect to take to the beach, on a bicycle excursion, or no further than the historic inn’s veranda. All meals are included in the room rate.

Greyfield Inn and Cumberland Island are both loaded with unexpected treasures. Ferry's leave from the port town of Saint Mary's daily.

Reservations can be made for Greyfield Inn at greyfieldinn.com.

Visit the national park service Cumberland Island website at www.nps.gov/cuis/index.htm for ferry and island reservations.

Bon voyage!!
