Chapel of the Holy Cross - feel the presence of Christ. Sedona, Arizona

Majestic rock formations are ubiquitous in northern Arizona. Sedona is thought to contain several vortexes (places of spiritual awakening) and at 4500 feet elevation, is a refreshing alternative to triple-digit summer temperatures of Phoenix.

Surprisingly, a Hollywood movie has yet to be made of the initial idea and concept, Lloyd Wright temporary design, and final construction of the Chapel of the Holy Cross - a breathtaking place of worship.

Marguerite Brunswig Staude, an artist and sculptor, was inspired by cross-like features apparent in the then recently constructed Empire State Building. As a tribute to her parents and a testimony of Catholic faith, she collaborated with Lloyd Wright (son of Frank Lloyd Wright) to create the Chapel of the Holy Cross.

Originally intended to be constructed in Los Angeles, yet a sequence of unpredictable events including World War II ultimately led to Staude surveying the red rock hills of Sedona happening upon at sign marking the spot for the Cathedral's construction.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross was completed in 1956 and dedicated in 1957. Marguerite Brunswig Staude worked with Anshen and Allen, an architectural firm in San Francisco to fulfill her dream.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is more than a 20th-century architectural accomplishment, it is a tribute to the life and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The stone structure seen in the distance from the Chapel's courtyard appears to be a statue of Mary and the baby Jesus carved into the red rock by God Himself.

There are several beautiful placed to visit in Sedona and undoubtedly great architectural structures to admire around the world. But, no other place will move your mind, heart, and spirit as that of the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona, Arizona.
