Maui Winery (previously Tedeschi Winery) - Ulupalakua's Bacchus Reborn
Tedeschi Winery in Ulupalakua has been a bucket list excursion for Emerald Island visitors for several decades. The name has changed to Maui Winery, but the delicious pineapple blanc wine remains spectacular.
Maui Winery is a part of upcountry's Ulupalakua Ranch which is an hour's drive from the Kapalua or the Northshore town of Paia.
Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, most certainly touched the soil of these upcountry slopes enhancing the creation of unforgettable vintages.
The vineyards are located mostly on the south facing slopes of the Maui mountainside at approximately 1800 - 3000 ft elevation. The soil and microclimate near the bottom of Haleakala volcano produce a variety of grapes (Syrah, Chenin blanc, Chardonnay, Malbec, and Viognier) perfect for creating deliciously balanced wine.
The tasting room is spacious, and staff knowledgeable of grapes, wines, and Hawaiian history.
The museum-worthy totums and wood carvings were masterfully created by sculptor Tim Garcia. These wonderful carvings create an unforgettable accent while displayed on the front entrance of the winery.
After the wine tasting (no charge for the first tasting), tour the grounds of the Ranch and winery which dates back to the 1870s with the previous owner, Captain James Makee.
Maui Wine is located at 14815 Piilani Highway, Kula Hawaii and is open from 10am-5pm daily (including Sunday). Don't forget to mention Nomad's Lens on your next visit to Ulupalakua Ranch, Winery, and Deli.
