Saint Lucia - Beautiful People and Wonderful Country

Strolling the magical streets of Soufriere, the heart and mind release the shackles of materialistic western bondage. The frantic pace of metro Atlanta and the stress from dealing with bumper-to-bumper daily rush-hour traffic seemed to melt away. Blanketed by the comforts of this highly inviting fishing village.

The people were peacefully communicating and helping each other with streetside sales cart and shanty-town type roadside stores.

Children were adventures and carefree. They strolled the city streets filled with energy, excitement, and adventure. They seem to believe that they owned this fishing town.

The sidewalk markets were mostly run by women -- young and old. They shyly turned away from the camera but welcomed our warm greetings and conversations.

Fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, and haberdashery was sold (or more appropriately, traded) at the sidewalk/street market.

Anyone could come to the town's center and set up their booth or small chair. Permits were not required, and all sales made with cash transactions in the Eastern Caribbean currency.

The family unit is highly important and children strongly supported, nurtured and loved. Nearly every child seemed excited to engage with the camera. There was an atmosphere of tranquility and harmony.

Nirvana is an internal state of enlightenment and peace. But, if there were ever the perfect surrounding to reach true enlightenment, Soufriere, Saint Lucia would be top on the list.

Wishing you peace, love, and happiness.
