Visitors Guide for Enjoying Dunn's River Falls, "The Ultimate Waterslide" - Ocho Rios,

Dunn's River Falls and the area surrounding it was know by the Arawak as "Xayamaca" which translates to the land of rivers and springs. It is easy to become captivated by the beauty of the park and the tranquil sound of the water as it rushes over the smooth travertine rocks. Visiting Dunn's River Falls and Park is a half-day or full day fun-filled excursion.

Dunn's River Falls is a living and growing display of beauty as it is constantly regenerating itself from the precipitation of calcium carbonate creating deposits of travertine rock.

There are several practical recommendations for visitors to the park. First, there is the entrance fee. General admission cost $20USD (tourist) for adults and $12 for kids twelve years of age or younger (The fee for local - J$600 adults and J$300 child with valid Jamaican ID). This fee covers entrance to the park and all associated water activities.

Dunn's River Falls was featured in the Hollywood movie, Dr. No, the film depiction of Ian Fleming's James Bond novel. Once you visit the park, you will immediately appreciate why the movie producers chose this location to film. You will also appreciate why Ian Fleming made the beautiful island of Jamaica his home.

There are changing rooms and also lockers for rent, if needed. I suggest bringing a large beach bag or backpack for your personal items along with towels and "wet shoes". If you don't have a pair of water sandals, they can be rented for a very low cost.

Nomad's Lens would like to remind all visitors to Dunn's River Falls that climbing the fall is not a requirement for enjoying the beauty of this wonderful place. Shopping at the craft huts, enjoying a picnic lunch or relaxing on the beach are all options to actually climbing the falls.

You will truly enjoy the beauty and fun filled activities at Dunn's River Falls Park. Even if you don't climb the falls, take a relaxing swim in one of the many small ponds or the beach.

Enjoy!
