Black River is a quiet port city on the southwest coast of the beautiful island of Jamaica. Once a bustling city, Black River was the first city in Jamaica to have electricity.
The capital of the parish of St. Elizabeth, Black River is approximately 50 miles from Montego Bay and is know for its tranquil coastlines and ecotourism.
There are two major routes from Montego Bay to Black River. The costal route through Lucea and Negril creates a memorable scenic adventure where the journey is as unforgettable as the ultimate destination. The quicker route through the mountains will save more than an hour of driving time compared to the coastal route.
The architecture of the city of Black River blends European influence with the Arawak and West Indian. As uniquely beautiful as the city’s building, the people of Black River are pleasantly engaging and delightful.
Our day trip to Black River was absolutely unforgettable. We parked the car, loaded our backpack and ventured into this magical world as if stepping through the looking glass.
