Prayer and Praise - Churches of Jamaica

As with most travelers, we typically arrive at our destination on Saturday or Sunday morning — preferably Saturday. After unpacking and unwinding at our villa (at Jewel Grande Montego Bay), we are ready to absorb the real Jamaican culture.

We’ve visited may places of worship all over the world (look for the upcoming blog on church’s of the world), but there is no place with the intense presence of God that comes close to the downtown community Methodist Church in Lucea and hilltop sanctuary in Rose Hall, Mount Zion United Presbyterian Church.

Full disclosure — my first visit to Jamaica 30 years ago included a visit to the Methodist Church in downtown Lucea. The couple traveled from Maryland to have their wedding ceremony at this quaint Methodist Church. So, revisiting the place of worship in Lucea was just “historically programmed”.

It makes no difference what name is used for God, nor is is the day of the week for religious worship important. What is most important is that you worship, pray and love.

Within these places of worship the spirit of the Creator is certainly felt and is very intense. The congregation supported their pastor and church and create the most uplifting energy focused on God’s love. They welcomed us with open arms.

Sharing worship service with locals in Jamaica or where ever your travels take you, will certainly give you a better appreciation of the spirit and heart of the Jamaican community. We are particularly moved by the warmth and friendliness of the beautiful, innocent children.

On your journey from Montego Bay's airport to Negril, ask your driver to stop briefly at the downtown local Methodist Church in the township of Lucea in Hanover Parish. When asked, "how did you hear about us", tell them that their prayers are so powerful they can be heard all over the world.

Peace and blessings......
