Rick's evolved as a most-see spot in Negril based on its prime location, natural cliffs and alternative to the sun soaked seven-mile beach. The food at Rick's is satisfying and the drinks are typical of tropical blends, and of course Red Stripe beer.

There have been several fatalities and numerous injuries resulting from slightly inebriated or overly adventurous tourist that leaped from the higher 35 foot diving platform at Rick's. There are posted signs warnings tourist of the dangers of cliff diving. Even in the face of posted warnings, tourist move beyond the professional diver's show to attempt their own leap into the Caribbean sea.

Rick's should certainly be on everyone's bucket list as a "must see/must visit" cafe and bar. It was originally opened by Richard (Rick) Hershman in 1974 when the sleepy fishing village of Negril began to explode as a major tourist attraction after the completion of the paved highway from Montego Bay.

It's easy to forget that Rick's is actually a restaurant, bar and cafe rather than a cool gathering spot for meeting friends and watching cliff divers, experiences and novice.

Getting to Rick's Cafe can be a challenge. Whether you're driving on your own or using a hired taxi or car, as you move through the town of Negril, you will wonder how much farther you'll need to travel before reaching Rick's. Rick's is wayyyy on the west side and easy to miss as you approach it.

Once you arrive, park the vehicle and have a few drinks, you will certainly feel the vibes of this iconic bar and cafe. Maybe you will even be tempted to ignore the warning signs, move the edge of the cliff and take a leap.
